victorian
The Victorian style of home was born and popularized during the 1840s to 1900s. Builders and architects developed several variations of architectural styles including Italian, Renaissance, Medieval and Queen Anne. Today’s Victorian home represents ornate and grand design with distinctive architectural elements like steep gabled roofs, wrap-around porches, and other fanciful details that offer unique sophistication.
On the exterior of the Victorian home, one would find arches, pointed windows, trusses and stickwork that are primarily borrowed from the Middle Ages. In addition, the use of lacy trim, boxy roofs, wide eaves, ornamental brackets, and shingle siding is often typical with today’s Victorian offerings. Interiors include fireplaces with heavy mantels, elaborate ceiling cornices, pediments over doors, and even frescoed ceilings. The Victorian is rich with history and allows for a variety of distinctive and elegant touches.
