One of the challenges of building or remodeling a home can be visualizing how moldings, cabinetry and doors are all going to work together. Atlanta shoppers now have a place where elements come together in a store that’s laid out like a home.
The new Insidesign showroom near Perimeter Mall is a warren of rooms you’d find in a model home, from the formal dining room and domed foyer to the laundry room, complete with a pet-grooming station. In between are examples of crown moldings, floors, staircases, doors and cabinetry.

The company’s creators worked with architects to come up with six popular design styles: romantic, modern, Arts and Crafts, Victorian, old world and colonial. “The idea is that we have moldings and woodwork that you won’t see all over town,” marketing director Seth Pennington said.
The Insidesign concept brings woodwork directly to the consumer, much the way plumbing fixtures are now available in swanky showrooms, Pennington said. “Traditionally, millwork companies sold out of a warehouse,” he said. “Here, they can come in and touch and feel before they buy.”

What you’ll find

Each room of the store features various design elements. The highlight of the old-world inspired dining room is the hand-scraped floor and custom cabinetry with beveled-glass panes. The spacious kitchen comes with a wood floor that resembles cobblestones, copper sinks, vented stove and work island. The formal living room is lined with judges paneling below a coffered ceiling. A contemporary master bedroom shows off sleek cabinetry, a wenge floor and a spa bathroom with a stone wall, acrylic soaking tub and mirrored pocket doors. The nursery walls are accented with picture-framed walls with stenciled alphabet letters and detailed moldings. A separate closet display shows ways to hide washers, dryers and ironing boards behind classy cabinetry.
The store also has an outfitted media room, dry bar and a laundry room. A dramatic staircase shows off railing, molding and newel post options. And there’s an entire gallery devoted to exterior and interior doors in a range of colors, sizes and styles.
